Well I finally have my blog up and running after loosing about two years worth somewhere in cyberspace, but its nice to have a fresh start I guess!
Shadow puppets. This is a weekend project I have (finally) started. Its something I've been thinking of doing for a long time. A collection of somewhat random ideas I've had in my head for what seems forever. Although I do fear my ideas are way beyond my capabilities I feel I still need to give it a go anyway. It's a story about mothers and daughters, about being a mother and being a daughter. Its about what we give to the next generation both good and bad, consciously and without having a clue. I also have a son who I cherish equally and I plan to include him here too because he is as much part of my story, although this project is more about being a woman and a little girl on a path to becoming a woman and how society and many other factors influence us as women. So I figured I may as well start at the start. This image represents birth and new life, peace and innocence. It's meant to be an egg she is holding having metaphorically hatched from and the hint of wings she is yet to learn to grow and use. I made all the props which I absolutely loved doing. The dress has 6 layers of tulle and underlining. The egg was made from paper mache, and spray painted sequins were glued on. The shot didn't turn out exactly as I was imagining, I wanted to use lights for this picture and backlight her but rain was threatening and it was only the two of us there with already lots to carry. I've used very little retouching in this, mostly colour work. I hope to post more images soon!
